“It turns out that “low-intensity” negative moods are linked to better writing than happy moods. As shown in the research of University of New South Wales Psychology Professor Joe Forgas, when we’re not walking on clouds or doing a happy dance, we tend to be more careful and mindful of details.”
So. Original plan: collect some data, make a totally sweet-ass visualization of it, print it, frame it, give it to Heather on our wedding day. Nice, right?
As ever, it didn’t quite work out.
For one: Illustrator is really hard. This looks nothing like it does in my head. Had to make a lot of compromises. Two: I didn’t finish it in time. Partially related to the previous point, partially related to me not having this idea far enough in advance (about 3 days). Three: No privacy while Heather is at home! And she took a day off work during those 3 days! Making my deadline effectively 2 days! Having never even used Illustrator! Without even owning a copy of Illustrator!
So. Yeah.
Regardless, I kind of like how it turned out. I had a much better idea in mind (two, actually) for the timeline portion, but I wasn’t able to get a good enough grasp on Illustrator to make it happen (see point one).
Now I have a year before our first anniversary to get better at Illustrator and make a way better version depicting our first year together.
Click to see it big, by the way.
Patient trapped in a 23-year ‘coma’ was conscious all along
Full StoryA man thought by doctors to be in a vegetative state for 23 years was actually conscious the whole time, it was revealed last night. Student Rom Houben was misdiagnosed after a car crash left him totally paralysed. He had no way of letting experts, family or friends know he could hear every word they said.
‘I screamed, but there was nothing to hear,’ said Mr Houben, now 46. Doctors used a range of coma tests, recognised worldwide, before reluctantly concluding that his consciousness was ‘extinct’. But three years ago, new hi-tech scans showed his brain was still functioning almost completely normally.
Jason Segel FTW. Booty call of the year.
‘Hysteric’ (acoustic) - Yeah Yeah Yeahs.
I’m seeing them live in Singapore in January. Can’t wait.
Google FTW. (via TheBloggess.com)
